Dr. Michael Nicolls is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of LeoLabs. Mike co-founded LeoLabs to accelerate the new commercial economy in LEO, to protect satellite assets, and to preserve the space environment. LeoLabs is the first commercial data source for tracking satellites and mapping LEO. Prior to co-founding LeoLabs, Mike was a Program Manager at SRI International where he developed and operated large-aperture phased-array radars for scientific studies of the upper atmosphere and ionosphere. Mike earned a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University with a thesis on radar studies of the ionosphere. He developed LeoLabs’ satellite tracking capabilities and leads the team designing LeoLabs next-generation radars to track small debris in LEO.
